[VIDEO] HKEPC Shows Haswell Core i7 4770K at 6.4GHz with 1.445V

Again spread via Facebook, we found another overclocking attempt of the upcoming Core i7 4770K Haswell. John Lam and Mad222 from HKEPC shared a video of one of their overclocking attempts. The CPU was briefly clocked at 6.4GHz using 1.445V vCore. This frequency is most likely not very stable since we just see the frequency quickly pop up on CPU-Z and the testing is part of "near voltage and temperature threshold" theory. This same theory was used to clock the Core i7 3770K to 6928MHz with only 1.488V.

In any case, it's an interesting video!

O lot of theory being posted lately  The most important factor is being ruled out (for the sake of sensationalism): good, highest bin sample.

United Statessin0822 says:

no you stil got to bin

TaPaKaH says:

Does it also mean that with 1.45V the CPU will bench at, say, 6.2-6.3GHz or this 'theory' is only good for 0.1s suicide screens?

RomaniaAlex@ro says:

it should be pretty obvious that they are frauds...

United Statessin0822 says:

why does it look like fraud? john Lam made this video i think and i don't think he'd make a fraud, but as you see just for a split second it works.

Austria_mat_ says:

We have binned a 3770K that easily does 6 GHz benchstable and maybe a bit more with 1.4 volts under cold. But guess what ... it does not scale with voltage, so 6.2 GHz is about the maximum the cpu can do with 4 cores. And that was one piece out of 55 cpus we tested.

John Lam video_reliable?

United Statessin0822 says:

i know the guy a little bit, he is either showing a vulnerability or something legit.

That really narrows things down.

United Statessin0822 says:

seems legit to me tho. its only a split second.

Correct !! Only works for 1~3 Sec , not benchable voltage , that's why I need to need "LN2" switch.

For the 3770K chip which can reach 6.92GHz @ 1.488v , it is a 7.18GHz Benchable Chip @ 1.908v and max freq is 7.219GHz .

Thanks for the info, looks promising stuff :) Looking forward to see you guys in action at Computex John !

Just for the record, I will repeat myself. One, if you post something in public I will assume it's to be viewed by everyone and it's okay to relay the news. Two, if you happen to see something you wish to have removed from the site all you need to do is send me a private message or email.

Thanks.

(ps: if you still feel it is necessary to fulminate in public, that is your choice)

googles "fulminate"

Saws nothing to me screan for 1 sec?

Other thinks are important as cold scaling cold bug etc. That video does not improove anything so its usless for me.

Wiki definition looks good to me Dino :D (Or Mad just feedin Andre's ...)

lol...I had too as well...

Vin

United StatesSplave says:

Understand the theory but what's the point if full pot, 1.9v gets you the highest valid speed and benching speed?

//EDIT: I was asked over email to remove the link to this video due to NDA. (always nice to just have someone contact you instead of reading angry stuff on Facebook)

Huh,

it's already on ocaholic.ch.

BelgiumMassman says:

Oops, sorry Stasio.

To clarify, that I in the previous post is me. I got an email with the request to remove the video due to nda. It doesnt matter if it is posted on other sites; i dont have admin rights there
